Julius Caesar: Hero or Villain?
According to the "Great Man Theory," a great man is defined as highly influential individuals who, due to either their personal charisma, intelligence, wisdom, or political skill utilized their power in a way that had a decisive historical impact."
Many men in history have been defined as "Great Men," such as Alexander the Great Hannibal, and the presently focused, Julius Caesar. However should any of them, especially Julius Caesar, be justifiably categorized as so? Or should they instead be categorized as the antagonist of such, or rather, the villain?
According to his conquests and battles, many would believe Julius Caesar to be so. When probed deeper and analyzed to the essence of an event, it was clear that Julius Caesar had many flaws in his personality. Caesar was merciless, promiscuous, cruel, ungrateful, vain, and most of all, arrogant. He treated all those around him poorly, including his wife and his captors the pirates who had treated him as their equal.
Due to these events, Julius Caesar is undoubtedly not a "Great Man" but instead, a villain.
In this simulation, you act as the Cilician pirates who captured Caesar. Read over the pages and argue why Julius Caesar, according to you, is not a great man.
